Kirken den er et gammelt Hus

1. Kirken den er et gammelt hus,

står, om end tårnene falde,

tårne fuldmange sank i grus,

klokker end kime og kalde,

kalde på gammel og på ung,

mest dog på sjælen træt og tung,

syg for den evige hvile.

2. Herren vor Gud vist ej bebor

huse, som hænder mon bygge,

arke-paulunet var på jord

kun af hans tempel en skygge.

Dog sig en bolig underfuld

bygged han selv af støv og muld,

rejste af gruset i nåde.

3. Vi er hans hus og kirke nu,

bygget af levende stene,

som, under kors, med ærlig hu

troen og dåben forene.

Var vi på jord ej mer end to,

bygge dog ville han og bo

hos os i hele sin vælde.

4. Samles vi kan da med vor drot

selv i den laveste hytte,

finde med Peder: der er godt,

tog ej al verden i bytte.

Kirken og vi, som ærlig tro,

altid er et så vel som to, -

et med vor drot og hinanden!

5. Husene dog med kirke-navn,

bygte til Frelserens ære,

hvor han de små tog tit i favn,

er os som hjemmet så kære.

Dejlige ting i dem er sagt,

sluttet har der med os sin pagt

han, som os Himmerig skænker.

6. Fonten os minder om vor dåb,

altret om nadverens glæde,

hvor skulle før i tro og håb

Herren vi finde til stede,

end hvor det for os prentet står:

Herren i dag er som i går,

så er og troen og dåben.

7. Give da Gud, at hvor vi bo,

altid, når klokkerne ringe,

folket forsamles i Jesu tro

dér, hvor det plejed at klinge:

Verden vel ej, men I mig ser,

alt hvad jeg siger, se, det sker,

fred være med eder alle!

8. Aldrig dog glemmes mer i Nord

kirken af levende stene,

dem, som i kraften af Guds ord

troen og dåben forene!

Selv bygger Ånden kirke bedst,

trænger så lidt til drot som præst,

ordet kun helliger huset!

1. Built on the Rock the Church doth stand,

Even when steeples are falling;

Crumbled have spires in every land,

Bells still are chiming and calling,

Calling the young and old to rest,

But above all the soul distrest,

Longing for rest everlasting.

2. Surely in temples made with hands,

God, the Most High, is not dwelling;

High above earth His temple stands,

All earthly temples excelling.

Yet He whom heavens cannot contain

Chose to abide on earth with men,

Built in our bodies His temple.

3. We are God's house of living stones,

Builded for His habitation;

He through baptismal grace us owns

Heirs of His wondrous salvation.

Were we but two His name to tell,

Yet He would deign with us to dwell,

With all His grace and His favor.

4. Now we may gather with our King

E'en in the lowliest dwelling;

Praises to Him we there may bring,

His wondrous mercy forthtelling.

Jesus His grace to us accords;

Spirit and life are all His words;

His truth doth hallow the temple.

5. Still we our earthly temples rear

That we may herald His praises;

They are the homes where He draws near

And little children embraces.

Beautiful things in them are said;

God there with us His covenant made,

Making us heirs of His kingdom.

6. Here stands the font before our eyes

Telling how God did receive us;

The altar recalls Christ's sacrifice

And what His table doth give us;

Here sounds the Word that doth proclaim

Christ yesterday, today, the same,

Yea, and for aye our Redeemer.

7. Grant then, O God, where'er men roam,

That, when the church-bells are ringing,

Many in saving faith may come

Where Christ His message is bringing:

"I know Mine own, Mine own know Me;

Ye, not the world, My face shall see.

My peace I leave with you."

Nền Hội Thánh Trên Bàn Thạch Kiên Cố

1. Nền Hội Thánh trên Bàn Thạch kiên cố,

Dù cho có khi lầu chuông sập rồi;

Mọi hình thức trên địa cầu xiêu đổ,

Mà chuông thánh vẫn lừng vang khuyên mời

Hỡi nhân loại đang cô đơn vô vọng,

Dù trong tuổi xuân, cao niên, nhi đồng,

Vẫn ước mong được nghỉ yên vô cùng.

2. Đền thờ bởi tay người ta xây cất,

Thần cao khiết trên trời không ngự vào;

Đền Ngài tối linh tuyệt vô trên đất,

Đền hoa mỹ nhân tạo so kịp nào;

Cả khung trời không bao dung được Ngài,

Lạ thay Chúa thích ở trong nhân loại,

Để cất một đền ở thân đây hoài.

3. Đền là chúng ta lập nguyên đá sống,

Làm nơi trú cư Ngài trên dương trần;

Ngài chuộc chúng ta bằng thân đinh đóng,

Làm con kế nghiệp thừa hưởng linh phần;

Nếu hai người chung nhân danh Jê-sus,

Ngài tất giáng lâm với ơn Thiên Phụ,

Lấy ái tâm thường chở che hộ phù.

4. Đền này chúng ta hiện xây trên đất,

Là nơi nhóm nhau ngợi khen, phụng thờ,

Là nhà Chúa ưa vào ra duy nhất,

Ngài vui bế nâng, bồng con dại khờ;

Biết bao điều hay ta nghe nơi này,

Là nơi kết ước Chúa ta sum vầy,

Khiến chúng ta thừa hưởng phước cao dày.

5. Này hồ báp-têm dạy ta nên biết,

Một qui tắc ban truyền nên tuân hành;

Kìa tòa giảng phô bày bao chân lý,

Bàn tiệc thánh liên hiệp ta một nhành;

Ở đây là nơi cao rao Tin Lành,

Ngày nay chúng ta kính yêu chân thành,

Để Chúa ta đầy hiển vinh thiên thành.
